    If you are, or wish to become, a pro tem judge in the areas of small claims, settlement conferences, family law and other areas at the discretion of the court, this training is required.  You must renew your Certificate once every three years.  For more information on this program please see this PAGE or go to http://www.placer.courts.ca.gov/general-attorney.shtml for more information and the application.

    The Bench Conduct and Demeanor Training will be held at the Gibson Courthouse, beginning at 2:00pm on September 27 in Dept. 43. This training session will give you the requisite 3 hours required every 3 years in order to keep current.  Our presenters for this training will be the Hon. Eugene Gini, Hon. Trisha Hirashima and the Hon. Suzanne Gazzaniga.  

    Space is limited.  Please register your seat online.  You must register no later than September 25 at which time registration will close, or will close when maximum number of registrants has been reached.  If you register and thereafter determine you cannot make the training, please email Nancy at placerbar.org@gmail.com to cancel so someone on the waitlist can take your seat.

    PART 1 

    Overview of a Family Law Trial/Evidentiary Hearing

    PCBA's Family Law Section, in conjunction with the Hon. Suzanne Gazzaniga, will be presenting a 5 part family law trial/evidentiary hearing series.  Part 1, which is an overview of a family law trial/evidentiary hearing, will be held in Department 43 of the Gibson Courthouse.

    To sign up for Parts 2-5, please sign up for each session you wish to attend.  Registration for each session closes the day before that session begins.  Please note, Parts 1-3 are held on Wednesdays in Department 43 while Parts 4 & 5 are being held on Tuesdays in Department 43.  Each session begins at 3:30 pm until 4:45.  Be sure to check in, sign the attendance sheet and find a seat by 3:15pm before the doors close promptly at 3:30pm.

    Part 2 will focus on evidence (admissibility, Types and EC 352).  This segment will be held on Wednesday, October 18, same time, same place as Part 1.

    Part 3 will focus on evidence as it relates to lay and expert witness testimony and hearsay.  This will be held same time, same place on Wednesday, November 1.

    Part 4 will continue focusing on evidence as it relates to documentary evidence - authentication/foundation and miscellaneous evidence issues.  Part 4 and Part 5 will be held on Tuesdays.  Part 4 will be held on Tuesday, November 14 at the same time and same department as Parts 1-3.

    Part 5 will focus on closing and briefing to include trial wrap up and briefing/statement of decisions.  This final part will be held on Tuesday, November 28.

    Cost is $20 for all PCBA Family Law Section members, $25 for all other registrants whether or not you are a PCBA member.  *Registration fees cover PCBA administration expenses without compensation to the court, judiciary or court staff.

    Join the PCBA Women Lawyers section for an evening of new connections and lively conversation with fellow lady lawyers in Placer County!Bring your business cards, your most effective elevator speech and curiosity for your next great business connection.  PWL is excited to hold this speed networking happy hour on October 18.


    Appetizers and a quick-paced, high reward night of meeting fellow attorneys and affiliates.  Cost includes one glass of beer, wine or non-alcoholic beverage.

    This event will be held “speed networking” style so that everyone gets an opportunity to meet as many other participants as time will allow.  Whether you’re seeking to meet a potential mentor or mentee, or are just looking to expand your network, you are sure to meet a fabulous community of women in law!

    It is important for individuals to know not only about their colleagues’ evolving practices but also their passions and pursuits outside the practice of law. Opportunities for referrals can come from knowing about common interests, hobbies and passions that have little to do with practice experience or expertise.
