SB 10: Will California Eliminate Cash Bail?

What do you know about SB 10?  The California Courts website's notice states:

Referendum 1856 (18-0009), Referendum to Overturn a 2018 Law That Replaced Money Bail System with a System Based on Public Safety Risk, qualified for the November 2020 ballot, after being certified by the Secretary of State on January 16, 2019. Qualification of the referendum has the effect of staying SB 10. At this time, the Judicial Council of California has suspended implementation of the legislation, including adoption of California Rules of Court.

In addition, the new tiered sex offender registration statute will be discussed.  As time permits, there will be a review of other significant criminal law legislation effective this year.

Our speaker on the above issues will be County Superior Court retired Judge Richard Couzens on September 17, beginning at noon.

This lunch will be held via Zoom Video Conference. Registered attendees will be provided with a link to Zoom registration once you have registered for this event and paid your fee.  Be sure to look out for that registration confirmation email!  It may land in your spam or updates folder.  This is a 2-step process.  Please pay online in order to receive the registration link. Thank you for your patience as we navigate this new method of providing MCLE during this challenging time.

This video conference will provide one hour MCLE credit.

Cost is $15 for PCBA members and $25 for non-PCBA members.
