After attending the Bench Demeanor Training, additional training is being offered for the following:

  • Observing/Assisting Attorneys assist on the Mandatory Settlement Conference calendars on Friday mornings from 8:30 – 1:00. They are attorneys who have not yet qualified to be temporary judges but are a big help to the litigants and temporary judges. They are basically temporary judges in training.
  • Settlement Officers are attorneys who will assist on the new Settlement Office Conferences for two attorney casesThis program will train volunteer attorneys to conduct settlement conferences on one or more issues. The issues can be property division, support, child custody and visitation after mandatory mediation, child support or all of these matters. The advantage of the SOCs is that a trial does not need to be set to utilize the settlement office. It will give the litigants the opportunity to get full or partial settlement early in the case without the need to set a trial date. To conduct Settlement Officer Conferences, you must attend this training or be a temporary judge.

Training for the above described volunteer positions will be held on August 1, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Dept. 43 of the Howard G. Gibson Courthouse.  Space is limited, so register your seat now and no later than July 29 at which time registration will close, or will close when maximum number of registrants has been reached.  If you register and thereafter determine you cannot make the training, please email admin@placerbar.org to cancel so someone on the waitlist can take your seat.
